Today is the grand finale of the Art project. This project was started as an attempt to explore the possibilities of art as a medium of expression, enjoyment and communal cohesion with special emphasis on Malayalee community. We performed three group drawing workshops with a participation of around 60. This was totally different from the sort of "gatherings" the community generally do. This experimental attempt gave us enough courage to go further. Kattankaappy will be conducting guided group gallery visits and open air communal drawing events during summer.   Please pop in today at Kerala house to mark your lines and colours between 2pm and 5pm. There will be a communal drawing in yet another form today. Artist Jose Antony will be helping us.   London is gifted with a whole list of galleries and art exhibition sites like National Gallery, National Portrait Gallery, Royal Academy of Arts, Saatchi Gallery, Barbican Art Gallery, Serpentine Gallery, Somerset House, Tate Britain, Tate Modern, Whitechapel Gallery etc. Most of them are FREE too. Lecture and discussion on political economy of the plantation life-world in the Indian South in the back drop of the uprising of the women workers in Munnar. Chief guest - Dr. Ravi Raman Report - ഭരണകൂടത്തിന്റെ അഭാവവും, വ്യക്തമായ രാഷ്ട്രീയ നിലപാടുള്ള തൊഴിലാളി സംഘടനകളുടെ പ്രവർത്തനത്തിന്റെ അഭാവവും, ചൂഷണ ചതുരമായ ഒരു മാനേജു മെന്റീന്റെ പ്രഭാവവും ആണ് അഞ്ചോളം തലമുറകളായി തേയില നുള്ളിക്കൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്ന തൊഴിലാളികളുടെ ജീവിച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന തലമുറകളിലെ സ്ത്രീകൾ മറ്റെവിടെയും കണ്ടിട്ടില്ലാത്ത രീതിയിൽ പ്രതികരിക്കുവാൻ പ്രാപ്തരായതിനു പിന്നിലുള്ള അടിസ്ഥാന  കാരണങ്ങൾ. ത്രീതൊഴിലാളികളുടെ കൂട്ടായ്മ, പുരുഷന്മാരെയും രാഷ്ട്രീയ പാർട്ടി കളെയും പൂർണമായും നിരാകരിച്ചുകൊണ്ടുള്ള ഒരു സമരമാണ് കേരളത്തിലെ മൂന്നാറിലെ കണ്ണൻ ദേവൻ കമ്പനിയിൽ  നടത്തിയത്. തേയിലയുടെ വില കുറഞ്ഞാൽ, എക്സിക്യൂട്ടീവ് കളുടെ ഭീമമായ ശമ്പളം പൂർണമായും പരിരക്ഷിച്ചുകൊണ്ട്, ഏറ്റവും താഴ്ന വരുമാനത്തിൽ ജോലി ചെയ്യുന്ന സ്ത്രീ തൊഴിലാളികളുടെ ക്ഷേമ, വേതനങ്ങളിൽ കൈ വയ്ക്കുന്ന മനജ്മെന്റും, അതിനോട് പ്രതികരിക്കാത്ത ട്രേഡ് യൂണിയൻ  നേതൃത്വവും, ഇതിലൊന്നും തിരിഞ്ഞു നോക്കാത്ത ഭരണ യന്ത്രവും. ഉടനെ പുറത്തിറങ്ങുന്ന തന്റെ പുസ്തകത്തെ അടിസ്ഥാനമാക്കി വിശദാംശ ങ്ങളിലേക്ക് കടക്കുകയായിരുന്നു Dr. രവി രാമൻ. ഇരുനൂറ്റി അമ്പതു രൂപയിൽ താഴെ ദിവസ വരുമാനമുള്ള ഒരു തൊഴിൽ മേഘലയിൽ പെടുന്നവരാണ് സമരം ചെയ്ത ത്രീകൾ. തൊഴിലാളികളോട് ഒരു പ്രതിബദ്ധതയും ഇല്ലാത്ത സമ്പന്നരായ തൊഴിലാളി നേതാക്കൾ ഈ മേഘലയുടെ മാത്രം പ്രത്യകത അല്ല എങ്കിലും, അള മുട്ടിയ നിലയിൽ തൊഴിലാളികളെ എത്തിച്ചതിൽ ഈ കൊച്ചുമുതലാളിമാർക്ക് ഒഴിച്ചു കൂടാത്ത പങ്കുണ്ട്. തൊഴിലാളിയുടെ ജീവിതം തകരാതിരിക്കാനുള്ള നിയമങ്ങളും, സംവിധാനങ്ങളും ഉണ്ടെങ്കിലും അതൊരിക്കലും ഉപയോഗിക്കാത്ത ഭരണകൂടങ്ങളാണ് കാലാകാലങ്ങളായി നമുക്കുണ്ടായിരുന്നത്. ഞെട്ടിപ്പിക്കുന്ന വിശദാംശങ്ങൾ പലതും TV ചർച്ചകളിലോ മറ്റു മാധ്യമങ്ങളിലോ വന്നില്ല. കമ്പനി യുടെ പരസ്യങ്ങളുടെ കനം വളരെ വലുതാണ്‌.  ഈ സമരം കപട ട്രേഡ് യുണിയനിസ ത്തിനുള്ള താക്കീതാണ്. സമരത്തെ പിൻ തുടര്ന്നു വന്ന പൊതു തെരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പുകളുടെ വിധി, ഭരണകൂടത്തിനുള്ള താക്കീതാണ്. മറ്റു തൊഴിൽ മേഘലകൾ ഈ പാത പിൻ തുടരാനുള്ള സാധ്യത വളരെ വലുതാണ്‌. അതിന്റെ പ്രത്യാഘാതങ്ങൾ ദൂരവ്യാപകമാണ്.
