Kattankappi of MAUK is celebrating the recent release of the movie “English” with the cast and crew from the UK at a free event at Boleyn Cinema.The movie by the acclaimed director Shyamaprasad was shot entirely in the UK, as we all know. And since a large number of people from our community have contributed to the creation of this movie in various ways, Kattankappi could think of no better way to celebrate than by calling all these people and inviting everyone else interested in Malayalam movies to come together and share their experience. Report: cast and crew of Shyamaprasad's movie speak about experience at Kattankaappi event Following the recent release of the acclaimed Malyalam film director Shyamaprasad’s movie English, its cast and crew from London joined cinema-goers at Boleyn cinema on 22nd June in East Ham for an open discussion forum organised by MAUK’s literary forum Kattan kaappiyum Kavithayum.At one point the cast and crew lined the stage with gleeful faces; they were sharing their experiences one by one. There was a beautiful moment when Subashiny Vasu (who plays Mukesh’s mother) began nervously before finding herself describing her creative journey at an unstoppable pace, and when Manoj Shiva told the audience what the director Shyamaprasad told him: “There is a movie inside you,” and then repeated it as if in disbelief. Watching these people share their experiences –the type we hear celebrities so often describe as “surreal” – was in its own way a performance. A good one too, because it was that enjoyable to hear such stories being recounted by people so passionate about the cinema. This was the highlight of the evening; however, not satisfied at stopping with cast and crew, the audience were treated to a critical evaluation of the movie and the director’s visionary methods. Speeches by Manamboor Suresh, Francis Angilose and Meera Manoj brought to life the ideas behind this unconventional movie with a soft spot for reality, whether or not that meant showing the seedy half of London over what the tourists see.Following in the vein to bring together as many voices as possible, it was a surprise when the actress Sona Nair and her husband Udayan Ambadi (who is credited with the cinematography of English) were contacted and answered questions through the phone.In the final part members of the audience got a chance to pick up the microphone and share their thoughts on the movie. And true to the traditions of a Kattan kaappiyum Kavithayum event, the evening was rounded off with a nice warm cup of black coffee.
