Omar Khayyam, the noted poet, philosopher, mathematician and astronomer who lived in Samarkhand of Persia (present day Iran) during 11th and 12th century AD is well known for his quatrains which count over 600 to his credit. Edward FitzGerald translated many of his works into English which paved the way for the introduction of Khayyam in to the West.Taste a bit of Omar Khayyam at our 'Kattan kaappiyum kavithayum' programme on Friday 8th March 2013 at Kerala house from 7-9pm.Malayalam short stories and poetries by various authors will also be presented. Report: Omer Khayam & Kunjunni Mash - 08.03.2013   Today's event marked a historic jump from Malayalam literature to something alien. Francis Angilose talked about the life and contributions of Omar Khayam, the mathematician, astronomer, philosopher, teacher and poet who lived in Persia around 1000 years back in time. He concluded that knowledge at all levels converge to one point where the distinctions as different disciplines simply vanishes. Priyavrathan talked about the Rubiyat (poetry) of Omar Khayam. He also recited few literals translated from Persian to English by Joseph Fitzjerald and its adaptation into Malayalam which he did.T.he whole philosophy about life by Omar Khayam can be summarized as "life is for enjoyment and not for worrying about" From literals to still smaller lines of poetic excellence by Kunjunni Mash was a matching continuation to the event. Manamboor Suresh presented 'Kunjunni Kavithakal'. The thought provoking lines lead to discussion and comments by audience. Murali Mukundan read two stories from 'Kotakara Puranam' by Sajeev Edathadan. The book was a best seller in 2012 in Kerala. Innocent humor is the best remedy to unwind the mind. We present to you a limited art programme with artist Jose Antony combining an introduction to modern art from the artist’s viewpoint, followed by a workshop that takes you into the heart of creating abstract art.
