Ian Fleming, best known for his James Bond series, was a famous English author, journalist but also a navel intelligence officer. He came from a wealthy family and his father was an MP. During WW2, Fleming was involved in planning Operation GoldenEye, the title of a successful James Bond film. Fleming wrote his first Bond novel Casino Royale, in 1952 but he also wrote the famous children's book 'Chitty-Chitty-Bang-Bang'. He died in 1964 at 56 from heart complications due to heavy drinking and smoking.
We will be looking at Fleming's style of writing, including mood, character development and plot. Fleming used a 'hooks' at the end of each chapter to increase excitement and pull the audience in. We will also be watching scenes from James Bond films and comparing his literature style with how this is shown on screen.
'കട്ടൻകാപ്പിയും കവിതയും' വിശ്വ സാഹിത്യത്തിലേക്കു കടക്കുകയാണ്. ഇയാൻ ഫ്ലമിങ്ങിന്റെ കഥാപാത്രമായ James Bond മലയാളികൾക്കിടയിൽ പോലും സുപരിചിതനാണ്. ബ്രിട്ടന്റെ രഹസ്യാന്വേഷണ വിഭാഗമായ MI6 ലെ അന്വേഷണ ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥനായ James Bond ചുരുളഴിക്കുന്ന അന്തർദേശീയ ഗൂഢാലോചനകളും, കുറ്റകൃത്യങ്ങളും ഇപ്പോഴും മലയാളികൾക്ക് ഇഷ്ടപ്പെട്ട പ്രമേയം തന്നെയാണ്. അതുകൊണ്ടു തന്നെയാണ് ഈ ജനപ്രിയ സിനിമകൾക്കു പിന്നിലെ എഴുത്തുകാരനിലേക്കു പോകാൻ 'കട്ടൻകാപ്പിയും കവിതയും' തീരുമാനിച്ചത്. ബ്രിട്ടന്റെ നാവിക സേനാ ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥനായിരുന്ന ഇയാൻ ഫ്ലമിങ്ങിന്റെ കഥാപാത്രം നോവലിൽ നിന്നും സിനിമയിലേക്ക് പറന്നിറങ്ങിയപ്പോൾ പാത്ര സൃഷ്ടിയിൽ ഉണ്ടായ രസകമായ വ്യയതിയാനങ്ങൾ, ബ്രാൻഡിംഗ് (branding) പ്രത്യേകതകൾ, ഫ്ലാമിങ്ങിന്റെ രചനാശൈലി, പാത്ര സൃഷ്ടി, തുടങ്ങിയവ ദൃശ്യ മാധ്യമത്തിന്റെ സഹായത്തോടെ സുരേഷ് രവീന്ദ്രൻ അവതരിപ്പിക്കുന്നു. അവതരണം പ്രധാനമായും ഇംഗ്ളീഷിലായിരിക്കും. ചർച്ചകൾ മലയാളത്തിലും ആവാം.
